Hop in my VANS

As the story goes, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), keeper of the offenders and criminals, asked for mass-produced footwear for its growing prison population, footwear maker VANS obliged. The outcome was Prison Issue, a distant cousin of VANS original skate shoe with a few minor tweaks, such as Velcro straps in place of laces for the fear inmates would fabricate suicide noose out of them.

With the help of Japanese designer Taka Hayashi, Prison Issue’s latest incarnation is perhaps the last thing correction officials would ever imagine. Composed in luxurious suede and leather, the Prison Issue Lace LX for VANS Vault line includes finite details. Adorned with etched graphics, a turquoise outsole and woven ankle strap, all cues taken from Native American designs. The Limited edition Taka Hayashi x VANS Vault Prison Issue Lace LX is currently available in black or charcoal. In addition it comes with a pair of spare black waxed shoelace.

I originally wanted the Charcoal edition but unfortunately its too hot and I missed the chance to grab one. All and all i'm quite satisfy with this. Now I'm rocking limited edition Vans Vault X Taka Hayashi.
